3 minute TV Program: You can significantly improve website traffic by using this forgotten but powerful YouTube method. I discovered this purely by chance when I was searching YouTube videos for spectacular jazz trumpet performances.
Here’s the Traffic Trick: Put simply, you place your own video response under a massively viewed YouTube video that is in the same market niche. This will improve website traffic to your web page. For example, one of the trumpet videos on YouTube has attracted over a million views, and this number is increasing daily. Video responses under that receive spillover traffic from the main video.
Now here’s the secret: You’ll get extra traffic to your site because your video response will attract a lot of views simply because it is visible right underneath the famous one. (It must of course be ‘niche aligned’ with the main video.)
One Vital Point: Be sure to place your website link beside your video response. This can substantially improve website traffic because people will click on the link and arrive at your website.
How to make a ‘YouTube Response’ video: Easy: This can be a simple Camtasia, Camstudio (free software) or Windows Movie maker screen capture video. Just set out some bullet points, then talk to them. Include a relevant image if possible. Even better, use a low cost flipcam to record real live video.
This is Traffic that lasts and lasts … Bottom line is that Traffic will keep arriving long term at your site, because the famous video will continue to attract views and carry your video along for the ride. This is a very simple but often forgotten way to improve website traffic with a very low level of effort.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks for the excellent tip! When we post the video response to a hot video, would the video response be published straight or need to wait till approved by the owner?
Cheers,
Ming Jong
Great info! Thank you for constantly giving so much value the marketplace…
Hope all is well..

Great video SEO tip, Jonathan! We always want to rank site and video views higher!
Another tip: Assume you are creating a video promo with a link to a website. It takes 10 seconds before an overlay will appear underneath. So when you produce your video for YouTube add a call to action (with your URL or contact details) at 10 seconds and script your voiceover to lead up to it. Point to the call to action in your video and say something like ‘Click on this link right now before it goes away’.
So in other words if a certain media has specific characteristics – leverage off them.
Hi five folks – great tip Jonathan YouTube is massive plenty of traffic going to and from that site that’s for sure but! it shouldn’t stop there I’ve found a good add on to do once you have completed what you have shown in your video – I’ve also got a cool tip to share with one and all “Auto-Syndicate to social networking sites” – I’m really impressed with http://onlywire.com/ to me once you have completed any actions to gain recognition online you really need to bookmark that action and Onlywire really is the place to do that – yes it takes some time to register to all the sign-ups but the rewards are gigantic from this free service – Auto-Syndicate Your Content to Millions of Readers with One Button. OnlyWire syndicates your content and articles to the web’s top social networking sites with a single button click. (just like I will be doing with this page once I’ve posted this comment good buddy)
For Ming Jong Tey
Hi there Ming Jong
The default situation is that video responses on YouTube require approval. But very often people allow them to be automatically approved for a response under a hot video.
Best approach is to look to see if there are any other video responses. If you can’t upload immediately, you can contact the owner who’s name is at the top right and ask for approval. Only takes a moment, although it may take a little while for them to respond.
See this guy complaining LOL …

Welcome back and thanks.
I’m planning a lot more for this channel. Get ready for the ride Sir.
Jonathan
Hi Jenny
I THINK I understand what you are getting at. Do you mean an ‘advertising’ overlay appears at 10 seconds? Leave me a note – I need to be educated on this.
Jonathan
Hi Philip
I have looked at Onlywire before and was not sure. But your comment here gives me the confirmation I needed. I’ll be into it brother.
Jonathan
Hi Jon
I posted some ‘related’ videos onto YouTube last year, and one was under a video with over 150,000 views. So many visitors came to me from that. (I am a consultant on Wordpress). But i did film a proper video in response, and put a eye catching good picture at the right place for a hot thumbnail so that worked.
I’m going to try again. Best ones to respond to are super high views. The owners seem to switch on automatic aproval. But it’s easy to see which ones to respond to, because they are the ones that already have several video responses.
Koz
Hi Ming Jong.. did you see the comment from Koz? Looks like a good experience.

Another great tip Jonathan.

Hi Croz
A 1000 new followers on Twitter in a week with Tweepi? Congratulations. That is a LOT given Twitter’s recent restrictions. I shall investigate this ‘Tweepi’ thing more closely – excellent recco thanks. Where do you get these gems?

Great stuff Jonathan,
I have finally launched my first product and I am going to use this tactic right away to get some traffic baby!!
Thanks bro,
Dave
Another great tip. Video marketing is the way forward for me I think, but I hadn’t thought of that little trick.
Really enjoy your tips. Trying to find a way to get members of our groups to go to our new website and see value. We will try this tip of creating a video and see if it helps. Thank you.
Johnathan:
WOW, what an excellent idea.
I never thought of that.
You’re the man.
Take care!
New product Dave? Tell me more. I may be able to help.
Jonathan
Hi Andy B.
You use video… Do you plan to make a TV show? Let me know. I’ll show you some things I know that will be useful, including tactics to build an audience and improve website traffic – sure can do.

Looked up your site. BNI looks like a formidable organization, and I see John Jantz (Duct tape Marketing) is involved. Impressive set up Sir. Let me know if you’d like something special done for your groups or suggest other ways to accelerate your results.

Now I know what I miss on my blog posts when I put up video. I have not written anything for those who cannot or choose not to view the video.
Ah ha!
Thanks, Jonathan, for reminding me to actually use the powerful method you described in this post. I’ve been procrastinating. Time to step outside my box and get visible in a bigger arena. I was playing small.
If you are a musician you may appreciate this guy even though this instrument is not a trumpet. I bet he has some kinda trumpet in his repertoire.

Hi Jonathan,
Sounds like a brilliant idea! I couldn’t find your 3 min video (still not seeing anything here). Checked YouTube and it’s not showing up on your YouTube channel.
I got the gist of it however from what you wrote and I did watch Tine Thing Helseth for 30 minutes!!!! Honestly I was BLOWN away by her. She has an amazing gift and talent. I have never seen a trumpet played with the delicacy of a flute! I was transfixed! So if I missed you brilliantly espousing your traffic idea on video responses, I got more than my share of amazing trumpeting! LOL
I looked at Tweepi.com and it is another one of those follow batches of people system with the hope that they follow you back. Tweepi looks like a cool site with integrity but is that “follow tons of tweeple and gain tons of followers” route really fruitful? You follow hundreds of people and clog up your stream so it becomes useless and you have little relationship with the majority of the tens of thousands you follow. Maybe these new twitters will follow you back. And maybe they’ll even be slightly interested in what you have to say.
It makes sense to me that if you want followers, be FOLLOW WORTHY! Put stuff out there that people are going to want more of.. and then they will follow you … and they will really be INTERESTED in you and what you have to say! They won’t follow you because they want a followback or because you followed them. If you follow for follow backs, you are going to attract others who follow for follow backs too. Where is the relating in that?
Love to see your video Jonathan, if you can locate it on YouTube!
Enthusiastically with Joy!

OMG! I am SO FAR out of my comfort zone, Jonathan. I just posted a really goof video response to the very popular mysteryguitarman’s Youtube channel. So I am the first one there for now.

Hi there Energy Girl.
Look for the video up on YouTube in a couple of hours. I’ll be getting into a rhythm of doing that every week from this point forwards.
Re Twitter: Quoting you: “… It makes sense to me that if you want followers, be FOLLOW WORTHY! Put stuff out there that people are going to want more of.. and then they will follow you … and they will really be INTERESTED in you and what you have to say!..”
Totally agree.

Ali
Watched that video. Thank you! And yes do put some text under your videos – apart from being useful to people who can’t or don’t want to watch, it’s good for the search engines.
Jonathan
Ali.
Looks like you’re right INSIDE your comfort zone.
Thats the spirit. Watched your other Vid now.
Fascinating that ‘Mystery Guitar Man’s’ material, is so extremely viral. Something to be learned there. I’ll post it here again as an example for everyone else http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FUds2j3wPQ
Jonathan
Hi Johnathon, I always look forward to your videos. I keep your link tabbed in my Firefox browser so I don’t miss any
Always good value and without all the fluff and hype.
Cheers, Pete.
Hi Pete
Re Firefox, found a miraculous plugin: An amazingly useful 3rd Party plugin called ‘SEO quake’ – provides all sorts of analysis such as rank on Google, how many links coming in etc.
BTW I understand that Windows 7 allows you to choose which browser you want to use – a sea change for Microsoft.
Jonathan
Jonathan,
Excellent tip and love your videos. Interestingly, I was looking for way to post a video response here. Sadly there’s no way to create a video response on your blog and must instead opt for the written word.
I’d like to get your thoughts on people who use their web cam to post the video response as opposed to creating a quality response with a decent video camera and good lighting.
Thanks for taking the time to read these comments.
Gerry
Gerry.
Re ‘VIDEO RESPONSES’. Sure … I’ll be installing this function very shortly. Looking forward to your contribution.
Re. Webcam v Quality video: This is a ‘horses for courses’ issue. (I’m assuming you want to this to improve website traffic?) It all depends on your subject niche. For chat shows and marketing content fast response is always good, so talking to a webcam is the most efficient way, quality not being crucial since the secret lies in WHAT YOU SAY. Plus who are you directing your response at? The video owner or the viewers? The content would be quite different.
But when responding to, say, a music video, a talking head is not necessarily the way to go. Same point applies with for example a sequence of beautiful images. It would be best to respond with your own breathtaking images … and you’d be able to if it was your speciality.
Overall, making a high quality video is always great, but relevancy of content is the key … quality being a distant second.
I might add too that sound quality is 90% of the equation – it carries all the emotion, and more than half the information. It is far more important than the visuals. e.g. If you listen to TV news without the picture, you can get a fair idea of what is going on, but the video alone can be a mystery.
Jonathan
Jonathan,
What a great video you shared with everyone this week. Can’t wait for the next video already.
I agree with your points on the video re: quality vs relevancy. If you’re on a budget but know you can deliver great content to viewers don’t let only having a webcam hold you back. Even if you don’t have a webcam use a screen capture program combined with some PowerPoint slides to share your great content.
I agree on the quality of sound though. You definitely want a decent mic to capture your voice. This can be done pretty inexpensively with cheap $30-$40 Logic-tech headset.
You want people to be able to hear your message clearly and not fumbling with their speakers to hear you correctly. All great points shared within your post and video.
Johny
Johny. Re. Logictech headsets and powerpoint.
Thanks for the info. Agreed. I use a big mic at the moment, but expect a headset might be equally useful at times.
Jonathan
muy util y practicos los consejos para su aplicaicon inmediata, gracias
Thanks for the tips Jonathan.
But I think most people would want to disapprove any video responses if their video is getting huge hits. You are at the mercy of the original video submitter.
If they do, then of course you can piggyback on them. Its a great strategy though.
Kudos Jonathan on an excellent post.
I must admit, creating a video response is a simple concept but seems very logical.
Nice job and I look forward to reading/watching future posts.
Good point Sammy. But I do see many new video responses under very high view videos on YouTube. This year I’ll be using the tactic as a way to improve website traffic to niche sites – maybe also to right here at the Traffic Cafe.
Jonathan
Great information, Being somewhat of a nubee your bits of information help me alot. I just put up a little website about specialty foods mostly focused on pastry
http://www.pastryreviews.com and any thing I can learn to help promote it is wonderful!
Keep it coming,
Tom Canavino
Hi Tom
Do you have any photographs of your foods? Make some (still shot) videos about 4 minutes long on a range of topics within your speciality foods. Just voice and photographs using windows movie maker (A slide show really) Entitle them ‘Unusual’ foods or ‘Strange food discovery’ or ‘Weird puff pastry actually spoke to me’ and put them up on YouTube (Interesting title will get views)
Put your website address top right in the description. Plus a just a few words describing what the video is about (a tease).
Do one each week. After a year of that you will have 50 videos all linking to your website. And then repurpose some of them as video responses under other highly viewed YouTube ‘food’ videos
That will definitely help improve website traffic.
Jonathan
Jonathan,
Thanks for sharing all this great info on building an online business. Traffic is KEY and I’m including this tip in my business strategy. Thanks again for helping all us newbies!
Hello,
Great advice. I signed up for your interview downloads and look forward to listening to other experts in your field. I want to make a video to promote my book on how to develop inner peace but I have never created a video before and I do not know of any hot buttons for a video about a book on how to develop inner peace. Would you have any ideas on the type of video that would get some you tube traffic?
My site in case you want to take a look is:

Thank you!
George Angel.
Nick. Input appreciated. Newbies the most welcome of all.
Jonathan
Hi George
One of the most successful ways to promote a book is by making a VIRAL video with a sweet sound track (use a royalty free music track) and put it up on YouTube. (No voice over needed ) You can do this using windows movie maker. Just follow their tutorials – very simple.
Here’s an example of a viral video in your niche (roughly) that is very simple, but is gaining views constantly.

The secret is to place your website link off to the side right at the top of the YouTube description area.
Jonathan
In leaving comment on youtube, is it allowed to post an html code?
.-= Chris´s last blog ..Ad Tracking Success =-.
Hi Chris
If you have a YouTube account, your name will be the link that YouTube shows when you comment on other people’s videos. I don’t think html works. (Will simply show as ‘error’ if you try.)
Jonathan
Hey Jonathan,
I actually had thought of doing that b4 but been dragging my heels on it. Thanks for the reminder…better get into action! It’s such a powerful technique. BTW…you can do it an amazon too

However it did spark idea that I haven’t seen anyone do yet…let’s hope it’s possible.
Thanks for sharing the tip!

Michele … Re Amazon, now there’s a great idea I confess I’d forgotten about. Reckon I might do an episode on that!
