Six minute TV program reveals how to make your business famous online by focusing on your goal and NOT the competition in a VERY SPECIFIC WAY. And it doesn’t stop there: In the program, Loic Le Meur reveals a ‘not to be missed’ business tactic.
Here’s the deal: You need to be up with the play and be aware of market changes and influences that may affect you. But obsessively watching your competition instead of growing your own offering can have a negative impact on your business.
THE MOST PROFITABLE PATH OF ALL:
1. Cooperating with your competition can grow the market for both of you
Co-operate as best you can with your competition. You may be able to joint venture with your competitors, making the marketplace and business far larger and more profitable for all than you could do independently.
2. Treate the competition well and they might buy you.
If you treat your competitors with respect, they will see the potential advantages of your business in the best possible light, and may in the end acquire you for great deal of money.
FURTHERMORE IT IS EQUALLY IMPORTANT TO AVOID CRITICIZING YOUR COMPETITORS. Two powerful reasons why:
1. Bad comments may be reciprocated.
Dealing with returned fire will waste your valuable time when it could be spent furthering your business interests such as by marketing, sales or link building for example.
2. Criticizing can make you look unsure of your own product.
Criticism can make it look as if you are afraid of your competition and therefore not supremely confident about the superior advantages your own product or service has to offer.
BOTTOM LINE: FOCUS ON THE DREAM OF SUCCESS FOR YOUR PRODUCT OR SERVICE.
Don’t waste a second knocking a competitor. It never pays. Instead, focus on your own dream – it’s the fast track to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

One school of thought is to actually engage your competition. I can see this as strategy, but I wonder where the line is. Unless one is secure in their business model and undaunted in their vision, I could see where this might to divert energy from the goal and purpose. Attention goes where attention flows. Seems, as you said that focusing on the dream is always the most fruitful. The meat of creativity and business building requires focus and awareness of purpose. If you’re slamming the competition, as you said it simply means less time to build the brand. Great post.
Judy .. yes one does need to be sure of oneself to engage with the competition – agree – that is really the main point in fact.

Another great nugget Jonathan (I so love your big nuggets) and full of wisdom, as usual. Funny, as time goes by, the less I think of competition as I am so focused on what I want, but I hadn’t thought of it that way until visiting the Traffic Cafe this morning! Thank you Jonathan.
Susie. I can always be assured that you are focused on your goal and … of making entertaining comments
Keep the flag flying.

Jonathan,
What a great post. It’s interesting I never think of people in the same field as my competition. For example you and I are ‘loosely’ in the same field yet you’ve always given me great advice and encouragement.
Moreover you set a high standard of presentation here at TrafficCafe and I’ve taken that as ‘encouragement’ to improve my act as I get my face out there.
It’s all part of your MAGIC of course ;~)
