How The Internet Will Look, 20 Years From Now … - Episode 69
The internet as we know it is about to change dramatically, and one thing is absolutely clear: Those in the know are going to make an absolute killing.
But to take advantage of this change you must be in position well beforehand … like right now.
This point struck me like a thunderbolt last night. I’m here in London for Christmas with my family, and we were standing in Piccadilly Circus – the famous street intersection in London. The gigantic advertising signs were flashing and glowing the same as 20 years ago when I last visited. But back then it was all neon and bulbs. Now it’s giant video screens. It made me realise that even though we think things have advanced as far as they can, nope, wrong, there’s a ton of change to come.
Here’s the deal then: Business opportunities are going to reveal themselves online as the internet changes in ways we simply cannot predict. They will be huge, and you will be able to take advantage of them, but only if you are already in the game.
The point I am making is to avoid waiting around until you’ve ‘learned everything’, or for an ‘ideal’ time to make your beginning. That will never occur.
Instead, take action now and get that website or blog up and running. The future is yours for the taking … and it’s going to arrive sooner than you think.

Thank you again for reminding us that it is all to easy to find the absolute cutting edge of things. Just getting a start will always cause the next stepping stone to appear, and once on the path we are sure to get to where we had chosen to go… or somewhere much brighter. Thank you again for all of your constant luminary teachings.

Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your email again I look forward to them.
Jonathan you should have let me know you were in
London, I could have met you somewhere!:)
No worries.
Anyway, yes technology will always advance as will
the medical industry but that is a bit behind for some
reason.
When I purchased a laptop 2 or 3 years ago, the ‘most’
gig hard drive you could get was 100Gb. Now it’s at least
double that you can get for a laptop. One day it’ll be a
terabyte [1000Gb].
Technology is amazing.
Have a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
Take care
Tony

Sounds great, I could meet you either on the 28th, 29th or
30th in afternoon if you have a postcode [for the sat nav] and/or

Can you see my email address there to message details?
Would be a great honour and generous of you to accept

If not, it’s great seeing your videos and content via trafficcafe.

Tony

I think you should say 5 years I shudder to think what we might be capable of in 20 years. Great insight though.
Enjoy your well deserved break

Hi Susie
Hey… good to hear! 2010 is going to be quite a year, and as always, the best place to be is with one’s own websites = for sure = so it certainly sounds like you’re on the RIGHT road.
But, still requires lot of darned diligence and patience though.
Let’s keep in touch.

the video certainly made me stop and think about the future of the internet.
We’ve already witnessed the massive explosion of video and social media and how these are being embraced by some major corporations to attract new customers and to engage with their current customers.
The landscape is constantly changing and as marketers we have to be aware this is being driven by our potential customers. This is evident with the incredible success of Twitter; the way YouTube has amassed an amazing following and also the way Facebook totally overtook Myspace.
People love to be entertained, you could also say we are still in the “popcorn age” hence the popularity of video sites today.
As you know Gary Vaynerchuk has used this medium to create a massive following and an ever expanding business. (http://tv.winelibrary.com/)
There is also an element of voyuerism as we all like to know how others live their lives day by day, hour by hour.
Blogs are now becoming Vlogs.
We all know that “change is the only constant”
Have a great time in the UK, and a great Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

There is constant change in our lives, and you are so right. We need to be ahead of the game. Do you know your short video got me thinking. What if we could have seen some of the massive changes from the past twenty years. How rich would we all be.
Merry christmas

Voyeurism sure is the word! Particulalrly like your point that the ‘popcorn age is still here’ concept. Agree – this is TRUE. In fact, your comment here is a high grade blog post in its own right.
Happy Christmas to you and yours my friend.
We need to catch up.

Hold you phone up next to that screen and play a YouTube video. Then you will see what the internet is going to look like in the next year.
Want to see what it looks like now? Get a Droid phone, a YouTube account and a Google Wave account and see the future now.
On you phone…..

Intriguing point Chris.
Trouble is, 99.9% of folks have no idea what Google Wave is, and those who do seem unable to give a simple ‘elevator’ explanation of it – which is a sure sign of a technology not ready for prime time.
Unless … you have an explanation already sorted so that folks can ‘get it’ in 20 seconds.
e.g.
Google: Search Engine
Twitter: Real time micro-blogging platform
Blog: Web based log of any subject. Updatable at any time by total non techies
Google wave: ????????????????

Hi Jonathan,
hope you’re enjoying England?
Chris makes some fantastic points (as always). I must admit that I haven’t used google wave in anger as yet; however, chris has some excellent info on setting it up and using it correctly.
(this is on my priority list after a launch my system)
regarding catching up… I’ve posted my number on your wall and I’ll try to skype you. I’m heading back home to Scotland tomorrow. Let me know your movements and if you’re free we’ll fly down to London to see you.
All the best
Phil
